I have real bad needle phobia and I know soon my catheter will be coming out. I am not the fainting type I fight tooth and nail and I am afraid I am going to hurt the person or persons trying to stick me. Are there any way to get help with my phobia? or what kind of help is out there? If I don't get this phobia under control I can't do dialysis any more. Thats how bad needles scare me

This must be dreadful for you - needles aren't pleasant for anyone but when you have a real phobia and you are having to confront it several times a week, your stress levels must be very high indeed.

Please discuss your fears with your medical team - they will have heard your story before and should be well placed to give you support.

Other than this try speaking with other dialysis users - here and on other forums, as well as at your centre. Other ideas such as hypnotherapy and realxation tachniques may work. Smith and Nephew have a site here http://www.needlephobia.co.uk/s_pages/facts.aspx you might find some useful stuff here.

Do let us know how you get on and keep in touch. Katy :D
