Film of home dialysis in 1965

Written by Russell England

I was trawling the internet for an old computer (The BBC Micro) the other day. I was reading through the BBC Tomorrows World website - a very popular tv series in its day - and discovered the very first programme in 1965 was about kidney dialysis.

The film is available online at Tomorrows World - its near the start so you don't have to watch the whole episode.

I remember my wife talking about a dialysing on a Kiele machine for 12 hours every other day - not sure if its the same one though.

Our thanks to Henry de Souza this morning who has shared his inspirational tale about travelling to Russia on PD.  Henry planned his trip well in advance and, although he had some obstacles to overcome, had a fantastic trip.  PD certainly didn't stop him making the most of his travels.

You can read more about Henry's trip in our travel story section.  If you have a story to tell please do send it along.  Your hints and tips will really help other travellers develop the confidence to get out there and give it ago!

Renal haemodialysis patient checklist

Written by Katy Draper

We like this checklist that we've just found on the National Kidney Federation website.  There is some useful advice here, encouraging dialysis users to review their care at least once a year.  To read this checklist please read the piece below:

We saw the new designs for the site for the first time this morning - very exciting!  I want to make sure that the new site gives everyone what they need and I'm looking to get a group of willing volunteers to help us with the beta site in readiness for the unveiling in the next few weeks.

If you're interested in helping I'd be very pleased to hear from you.
